GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has called on fuel traders across the country to avoid imposing excessive price increases on consumers following a recent rise in fuel costs.

Acting Minister and Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, Abdiwahab Abdi Omar, said the government has already held discussions with fuel traders and urged them to ensure that any price adjustments remain fair and justified.

“We asked traders not to charge citizens more than what is justified,” the deputy minister said, emphasizing the government’s concern about the economic pressure facing ordinary Somalis.

According to the government, some fuel suppliers have cited supply challenges as one of the reasons behind the price increase, noting that access to fuel has become more difficult in recent days.

However, the minister stressed that protecting citizens from unnecessary economic strain remains a priority, adding that it will continue engaging with traders and relevant stakeholders to address the challenges affecting the fuel sector and to stabilize prices.

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to finding practical solutions that ease the burden on both businesses and the public while ensuring fair market practices.
