At least 13 people have been killed and 38 others injured in a road accident at Awasi, Southern Kenya.
According to police, the accident occurred after a bus belonging to Eldoret Express collided with a truck along the Nairobi – Kisumu highway.
Police added that the bus is suspected to have overloaded and hit an oncoming truck head on as the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was overtaking. Unluckily, there was a truck coming and a head on collision happened,” County police Boss Benson Maweu confirmed.
The police boss said the 13 casualties were confirmed at the scene. He said scores of injured people were taken to various hospitals in the lakeside city.
“We are yet to confirm the number of the injured so that we can be able to know exactly the number of passengers aboard the ill fated bus,” he said.
