16-seat election to be held in Elwaq town- FEIT

GOOBJOOG NEWS/KISMAYO: The Federal Election Implementation Team has announced that the 16-seat election earlier scheduled for Garbaharey town has been moved to Elwaq town in Gedo region.

The Federal polls body noted that it was not worth to exclude the 16 seats in Garbaharey out of the country’s electoral process, as new lawmakers were sworn in today.

Insecurity in Garbaharey was cited as an impediment to the holding of elections in the constituency, while the Garbaharey administration was also accused of barring the FEIT team from visiting and assessing the security situation in the town.

FEIT also said the decision to move elections to Elwaq town was part of a series of complaints from communities in Garbaharey, thus the need for a more secure and safe election venue had to be put into consideration.
