#16Days2017: Officer accused of sexually violating teenager to face the law-Puntland DP

Puntland authorities have vowed to ensure the police officer alleged to have sexually abused and injured a 16 year old teenager in Bosasso before fleeing to Jubbaland faces the full force of the law.

Puntland deputy president Abdihakim Amey said the officer, Abdirizak Warsame was under police custody and would soon be arraigned before a court of law to face charges. “He is under custody and I will ensure the law is executed accordingly for him to face justice,” the deputy president said.

Speaking during the launch of the 16 days of activism on violence against women yesterday, Amey said his administration will never allow any violation of women.

“We feel bad about the problems Faisa faced. Fortunately the perpetrator is in our custody. We shall never allow women to be violated.”

Warsame, a police officer in Bosasso was arrested early this month in Jubbaland after fleeing following the incident in which he is alleged to have sexually assaulted and shot the 16 year old on her private parts.

The victim, whose identity was later released in the social media is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Mogadishu.

The 16 days of activism is a global campaign on galvanizing action against Gender-Based Violence  around the world. The international campaign originated from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute coordinated by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991.

This year’s campaigned is based on the theme, Leave No One Behind: End Violence against Women and Girls”— reflecting the core principle of the transformative 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
