25 people arrested in Somalia’s Somaliland and Puntland states for not fasting

The police in the semi-autonomous regional state of Puntland and the breakaway Somaliland have been cracking down on Muslims who fail to fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
Puntland police have arrested 15 of people for failure to fast in an operation that took place in Galkaayo town.
The officials said Law enforcement agency’s monitoring of non-fasting Muslims during Ramadan is to ensure the sanctity of the month.
In Separate operation in the administrative capital of Somaliland Hargeisa, the police nabbed 10 Muslims for disrespecting the holy month of Ramadan by not fasting.
The officials said that those arrested would be prosecuted and be sentenced according to the law.
Muslims worldwide started their month of fasting on 27th May 2017.
It is determined by the lunar cycle and will run until 25 June this year.
Ramadan is a special month of the year for the over one billion Muslims throughout the world.
