CAF President mourns Somali legend
CAF President Issa Hayatou has expressed sadness over the death of Somali legend Abdi Ali Sheik.
Abdi Ali Sheik Ahmed died at his home in Mogadishu at 8am on last Friday morning, according to Somali Football Federation announced. And and he has since been laid to rest.
The letter of condolence which dated on 21st of March read “On behalf of CAF CAF Executive Committee, the entire African football family and in my personal name, we would like to convey to the Somalia Football family our deepest condolences and sympathy following the death of the football legend Abdi Ali Sheik”.
The late legend had long suffered from chronic diabetes, but was still very active in the sport and served as the deputy chairman of the Somali
police-owned club [Heegan].
Abdi Ali Sheik Ahmed had lent a forceful commitment to the development of Somali football since 1960. He was one of Ocean stars top players in 1960s and 1970s.
