Former Somali planning minister declares 2016 presidential bid
Former Somali minister for planning and international cooperation, Saeed Abdullahi Mohamed has today announced that he is running for the upcoming Somalia’s presidential elections in 2016.
“Every Somali citizen has the right to run for this position, the only different their election manifesto and their history in the political arena. My long experience and my involvement in the politics give me the suitability to run for this position” said Mohamed. Adding “everyone gave his opinion on what is happening and how he thinks the country’s problems can be fixed”
Several Somali politicians have earlier declared their bids to run for the upcoming Somali presidential elections this year, the latest being the former president of the Puntland semiautonomous state in northern eastern Somalia, Abdirahman Faroole.
‘’I have decided to run for the presidency in order to eliminate the 4.5 formula which is a disgrace to the Somali people.’’ said Faroole.
Somalia is expected to hold elections in September this year, with the current President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud as one of the candidates.
