3 Minnesota men charged in terrorism case to remain jailed
Three Minnesota men accused of trying to go to Syria to join the Islamic State group will remain in custody for now.
But U.S. District Judge Michael Davis said Wednesday that he’ll carefully consider plans drafted by defense attorneys for the three men and the Somali community to facilitate a release to a halfway house and reintegration into the community.
The men are among a group of seven facing charges of conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist group.
The federal government opposes their release, saying the three are a danger and flight risk.
Yet Davis invited Somali community members and religious leaders to create plans to steer the men in a positive direction while protecting public safety and ensuring they appear in court.
