Al-Shabaab stone man to death for adultery in Baay region

Al-Shabaab stoned a man to death on Sunday for alleged adultery in Rama-Aday village of Somalia’s southcentral region, Baay.
Hundreds of local residents gathered at the field to witness the pelting.
Dayow Mohamed Hassan, 44-year old was buried neck-deep in a hole before he was pelted with stones.
Hassan who was married with two children was found guilty of committing adultery before the militant group sentenced him to publically stoned to death, according the group.
Moalim Geedow who is regional governor representing group in Baay region told Reuters that Hassan was buried neck-deep in a hole then pelted with stones.
“The man was married with two wives and children. He was publicly stoned to death today for committing adultery according to the Islamic sharia,” Geedow said, using a term for Islamic law.
The group said that Hassan had love affair with his former wife.
According to Moalim Geedow, after thorough investigation into the case, the group found that the man impregnated woman outside wedlock.
“The man had a third woman who was a divorcee. He did not have her according to sharia. He deceived her, saying that he went to a sheikh (local leader) and that he married her. However, when the woman got pregnant, the two families debated and there was no trace of valid matrimony. The court ruled he did not marry her legally and he was stoned to death,” explained Geedow.
Al-Shabaab which wants to overthrow Somalia’s the internationally recognized government.
Despite losing the control of many towns including Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu to Somali forces backed by African union mission in Somalia, the group till is capable launching deadly attacks against the government forces and civilian populated areas.
Last week, a suicide bomber driving saloon car blew himself up near Mogadishu port, killing nine people and over a dozen others mostly civilians.
Somalia’s president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo vowed that his government would annihilate the militants within two years.
