Uganda backs Somalia’s quest to join EAC

GOOBJOOG NEWS | KAMPALA: Uganda has said it fully supports a move by Somalia to join the East African Community (EAC).

Ugandan foreign affairs minister Abubakar Jeje Odongo reaffirmed this when he met Somalia’s presidential special envoy of the East African Regional Economic Cooperation Dr. Abdisalan Omar Hadliye in Kampala Uganda today.

Dr. Abdisalan stated that already, Somalia had applied for the EAC membership and discussed a report of a meeting by the technical committee formed to oversee the implementation of the application which reviewed Somalia’s readiness to join the regional bloc.

He further urged the Ugandan minister to support Somalia’s moves to ensure the country achieves full membership in the organization.
