Puntland Breaks Silence on Israel’s Somaliland Recognition, Reaffirms Somalia’s Unity

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Puntland has, for the first time, publicly addressed Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, stating that it will never enter into any compromise over the unity of the Somali people and the Somali state.

Speaking in a radio interview Puntland’s Minister of Information, Mahmoud Aidid Dirir, said there is no part of Somalia that attained independence separately, stressing that all regions of the country were historically part of one unified state. He emphasized that any step that undermines the cohesion and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia is unacceptable.

The minister underlined that national unity is not a negotiable issue and warned against actions that could weaken the country’s sovereignty and collective identity.

Puntland’s remarks come amid rising political tensions and growing concern over Somalia’s unity, following Israel’s recent decision to recognize Somaliland, a move that has triggered strong reactions across Somalia’s political landscape.
