Local Fighters Report Gains Against Al-Shabaab In Hiiraan

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISH: Local community fighters known as the Macawisley carried out a large-scale security operation in Somalia’s Hiiraan region, inflicting significant losses on Al-Shabaab militants in areas of Maxaas district.

The operation followed intelligence indicating militant movements in the area, according to local security sources. Several planned attacks targeting civilians were disrupted during the operation, they added.

Commanders involved said operations would continue until remaining Al-Shabaab elements hiding in parts of the region are cleared, stressing that restoring security remains a priority.

The latest action forms part of broader efforts by the Somali National Army, working alongside local fighters, to weaken the Islamist group’s presence and improve stability across Hiiraan.
