A cargo ship carrying 2000 Somalis docks at Bossaso
More than 2000 Somalis from Yemen have reached the city port of Bossaso on Thursday evening, Somali rescue committee officials say.
A cargo ship that was ferrying Somalis stranded in Yemen, has docked at Bossaso town.
The returnees who were mostly women and children have received canned food and water distributed by the administration of Puntland state.
The chairman of Somali refugee rescue committee, Sheikh Barud Gurhan who is currently in Bassaso town has confirmed the arrival of the Somalis.
These Somalis, whom their lives were at the mercy Yemen violence, have been resting under the shade of Yemen since the government of late Mohamed Siyad Barre deposed by rebellions.
More than 10,000 Somali and Yemeni refugees have been evacuated from Yemen in the last two months.
At least 120 Somali refugees have been killed in Yemen since the fighting erupted early this year between conflict between the Houthi rebels and internationally recognized Yemen government backed by Saudi led coalition strikes.
Somali government promised to dispatch ships and planes for the evacuation of Somalis caught in Yemen’s conflict.
It was on 27th April when Director of the Parliament Mohamed Iyow told Goobjoog that the parliament has approved to send two ships to evacuate Somalis in Yemen.
While other foreign nationals have been evacuated from the impoverished gulf nation, the federal government has not yet moved to evacuate its citizens despite announcing plans to bring back them home.
