A soldier is executed by firing squad in Puntland
A soldier who had been found guilty of murdering a fellow soldier was executed by firing squad in Garowe today.
Few months ago A military Court sentenced Aydurus Dahir Mohamed to death by firing squad for the murder of Abdiwali Farah Ismail who was a Puntland soldier.
Judge, Abdikariin Hasan Firdhiye said “execution procedures were put in place to enforce the court ruling.” Many people in Bosaso have gathered to witness the execution of the former Puntland soldier.
Execution of murderers is seen by many people as a major deterrent that can boost security in a region where assassinations have become common occurrences.
The European Union, the United Nations and human rights campaigners have all urged Somali authorities to reinstate the moratorium.
