Somalia, Ethiopian and Eritrean leaders kick off talks in Asmara
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi, Eritrea’s Isaias Afawerki and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today hold joint talks in the Red Sea city of Asmara.
The summit will seek to jointly work in sustaining economic growth and security in the Horn of Africa region.
Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Thursday’s tripartite meeting of leaders from the three countries in Asmara the region boasted huge economic potential which can also be effectively harnessed through joint efforts.
Last night joint cooperation agreement with their Excellencies President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, Isaias Afwerki and PM Abiy Ahmed in Asmara have agreed to enhance economic, political, social, cultural and security cooperation.
The leaders are also expected to initiate dialogue to resolve the disputes in the Horn region between Eritrea and Djibouti’s border conflict.
The Djibouti – Eritrea standoff is seen as the final break needed to be solved to restore durable peace to the Horn of Africa region.
