Acting Interior Minister Abdullahi Godah “10 thousand Somali Refugees are registered to return From Kenya “
According to the acting Interior Minister Abdullahi Godah Bare there are some ten thousands Somali refugees who are registered to return voluntarily from Somalia, he was speaking in a ceremony to launch a new agency for resettlement of refugees and IDPs held at Halane base, Mogadishu.
The ceremony was attended by the United Nation’s Refugee Agency and other aid agencies and the minister announced that there is 5 million Euros pledged to the resettlement plan by donors.
Among the speakers were the acting ministers of foreign affairs Dr. Abdirahman Duale Beyleh and Public Enterprises Nadifo Mohamed Osman , they both hailed country’s security achievements as the driving force behind the refugees to return back to Somalia.
The first phase of Somali refugees in Kenya has returned to Somalia for the first time in two decades last week and more is expected to return.
Contrary to the minister’s comments, previous numbers provided by the UNHCR suggested that only three thousands refugees have registered to return. There are close to half a million Somalis in Dadab Refugee Camps, making the biggest in the world.
