Afgooye farmers express concerns over growing insecurity in the area
Farmers of Afgooye town and it environs are raised concern over gunmen clad in Somali National Army (SNA) who rob them on their way to and from the market.
Residents living in Sagaalaad and Gaalwari suburbs are the most affected farmers in the town.
The robbers waylay the farmers and rob them and even sometimes assault them seriously if they resist, according a farmer asked no named.
He said he was robbed several times. “They demanded money and end up searching our property, making off with whatever we have” he noted.
The incident takes place when the farmers are on their way to market carrying the farm products from the villages and back from the market.
The farmer said He was scared for his life when the man pulled out the gun and robbed her in broad daylight as he was from Afgooye market.
Meanwhile the administration of Afgooye said that they are carrying out operation clean up the roadblocks and that they did not get complain from the farmers.
“The administration is ready to serve the public but we did not get report about farmers robbed by gangs,” one of the officials in Afgooye town.
