Afgoye administration dismiss Al-Shabab claims over Monday raid
Afgooye Administration has dismissed the victory claimed by Al-Shabab fighters in the latest battle in Afgoye town where the group said to have killed over seven government soldier on Mondays night.
Yussuf Mohamed, deputy district commissioner for security affairs who spoke Goobjoog News said that confrontation between joint forces and Al-Shabaab militants broke out on Monday night after Al-Shabaab fighters attacked a police station.
“Al-Shabaab fighters attacked police station in the town mid Monday night, the battle lasted for about an hour, they did not capture the town, we pushed them back. But some civilians were killed,” Mohamed said.
Mohamed denied policemen were killed in the attack.
Independent sources in Afgooye town confirm five civilians and two police officers were killed during the heavy fighting which lasted for about 30 minutes.
The Government soldiers reportedly pulled out of the police station after they were defeated in the battle.
Al-Shabab earlier claimed to have overrun the base shortly.
