GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: agriculture Minister Mohamed Abdi Khair Maareye has assured traders in Mogadishu of prompt action to ease movement of goods following complaints of long delays in checkpoints into the city.

Speaking after visiting checkpoints in Daynille district on the outskirts of the capital, Mogadishu, Mareye said he will follow up the matter with the security apparatus to ensure efficient flow of traffic.

The Minister was responding to complaints from traders especially those transporting vegetables and other perishable items from the Lower Shabelle region. The traders decried the long hours in checkpoints noting their produce reached the market when they are no longer fresh.

The traders said the security officers manning checkpoints kept them for several hours on end. The Minister promised to address the problem with his Security counterpart.
