Aircraft Overruns Runway After Technical Fault at Aden Adde Airport, Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: A passenger aircraft returning to Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport after takeoff overran the runway on Tuesday following a technical problem, Somalia’s civil aviation authority said.
The plane had been heading to the central city of Galkayo when it developed a mechanical fault shortly after departure and was forced to turn back, the authority’s director, Ahmed Macalin Hassan stated.
He said the aircraft landed safely and all passengers were evacuated without injuries, despite the plane veering off the runway toward the sea.
“There were no casualties,” Ahmed Macalin said, adding that the situation was quickly brought under control.
The civil aviation authority said an investigation was under way, but further details about the aircraft and the cause of the malfunction were not immediately available.
