Airport Road, Major Access Points Cut Off as Heavy Rains Cause Major Floods in Mogadishu

GOOBJOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Several roads in Mogadishu, including oner connecting to Aden Adde Airport have been cut off following heavy rains that pounded the city from Friday night through into Saturday morning.

Pictures show major roads inundated as residents remained marooned in various city states. The road heading to the airport is completed cut off severely affected traffic and public transport, especially hundreds of people travelling within and outside the country.

The Zoobe road, which is also important for traffic connecting different parts of the city, has been completely cut off, as rainwater and flash floods have blocked traffic. Some residents said that their homes and businesses have been flooded, causing property damage that has not yet been fully assessed.

The rains last night were unusually heavy and lasted for hours, highlighting the urgent need to improve the city’s drainage system and road infrastructure.

There was no immediate comment from the city administration.
