Airstrikes Kill 26 Al-Shabaab Fighters In Middle Shabelle, Government Says

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MIDDLE SHABELLE: The Somali government said its armed forces, working in coordination with international partners, carried out airstrikes targeting Al-Shabaab positions in the Middle Shabelle region, killing 26 militants and destroying military equipment.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, the strikes targeted locations in Cadow Jilib, Gayfo and Qordheere, where Al-Shabaab fighters were reportedly operating.

The ministry said 26 members of the militant group were killed during the operation. It added that the strikes also destroyed combat vehicles and boats that Al-Shabaab had been using to support its movements and carry out attacks.

According to the government, the operation forms part of ongoing military efforts by the Somali National Army to pursue and weaken Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities while disrupting planned attacks.

The Somali government also expressed appreciation to its international partners for their continued support in counterterrorism operations and broader efforts to combat the militant group.

The Ministry of Defence and the Somali National Army reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining operations against Al-Shabaab until the group no longer poses a threat to the Somali people.

The government did not identify the international partners involved in the operation, and the casualty figures have not been independently verified.
