Airstrikes Kill 54 Al Shabaab Fighters Across Four Regions in Somalia
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s National Armed Forces, in coordination with international partners, carried out a series of airstrikes targeting Al-Shabaab positions across multiple regions, killing dozens of militants, officials said.
The operations involved six airstrikes in Tardho in Hiiraan, Ugunji in Lower Shabelle, Daynuunaay in Bay and Qumbi in Lower Jubba, areas security forces said had been under surveillance following recent militant activity.
Military officials said the strikes killed 54 Al-Shabaab fighters and wounded several others, while also destroying supply stockpiles and positions used by the group.
The operations come as Somalia intensifies a sustained military campaign against Al-Shabaab, which has waged an insurgency for more than a decade and continues to carry out bombings and attacks across the country.
In recent months, government forces, backed by allied militias and international partners, have stepped up both ground and air operations aimed at weakening the group’s operational capacity and reclaiming territory.
The officials said the latest strikes were intended to disrupt Al-Shabaab’s ability to move fighters and weapons, as well as to limit its capacity to plan and execute attacks against civilians and security forces.
