Al Jazeera’s Hamza Mohamed was released Thursday after two days in detention in Mogadishu, the Qatari news network has confirmed.
The network said the journalist was released without charges after what Federal authorities said in Mogadishu ‘he had been held for questioning’.
Reports earlier indicated Mohamed had been arrested following his coverage of stories related to the militant group Al-Shabaab outside Mogadishu.
Mohamed was the second journalist to be arrested in a week following the arrest and later release of Xo-Gaal newspaper editor Abdi Aden Guled.
Mohamed had been detained alongside his cameraman and a fixer.
British ambassador to Somalia Harriet Mathews lauded the release noting there were no acceptable reasons for any detention.
