GOOBJOOG NEWS|WEST BANK: The Palestinian Health Ministry has announced that Israeli forces shot and killed a senior Al-Jazeera Arabic correspondent during an army raid on Wednesday morning in the West Bank’s  Jenin refugee camp.

Prominent journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, 51, is said to have been wearing her clearly visible press jacket when she was shot in the head during the coverage of the raid and was transferred to Ibn Sina hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Shireen has been working for Al-jazeera for more than 25 years,  since the beginning of the second Palestinian Intifada in 2000.

Another journalist named Ali Asmoadi, who works for the Jerusalem-based Al-Quds newspaper, was also shot in the back and is reported to be in a stable condition.

A report released by the Palestinian Health Ministry on Monday said that at least 50 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the start of the year.

The Israeli military, in its defense, said that it had come under attack with heavy gunfire and explosives while operating in Jenin, and that they fired back, adding that it was “investigating the event”.
