Al-Shabaab Militants Withdraw from Jamame town, Southern Somalia
The Al-Qaeda-aligned Al Shabaab militants have withdrawn from Jamame town of lower Jubba in Southern Somalia after the Somali troops and AU troops plan an attack to capture the town back.
The residents in the town have told the media that al-Shabab battle-wagons loaded with their weapons had been leaving the town since morning.
“Al-Shabaab has not perished, so the worry is what next,” said local elders of the town.
Al-Shabaab has pulled out of a number of urban areas in the recent months under pressure from advancing African Union forces. But their continuing guerrilla attacks still pose a big challenge for the country.
The Shabaab has been fighting to overthrow the internationally-backed government in Mogadishu for over a decade.
Despite losing towns and territory in recent years the group continues to carry out regular bombings and armed raids on government, security and civilian targets in the capital and elsewhere.
