Al-Shabaab operative in charge of IEDs nabbed in Marka town
A senior Al-Shabaab militant responsible for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Marka in the Lower Shabelle region was Saturday arrested by Somali forces during a sting operation.
The October 14 brigade of the Somali National Army nabbed the leader identified as Suleiman Omar Abdullah as he was setting explosive devices in a bridge in Marko town according to an SNA commander.
Ahmed Abdi Ali, a Somalia National Army (SNA) commander told the media the army had been working with locals to acquire intelligence which led to the capture of Abdullah.
“He (Abdullah) was arrested while he was setting explosives at a bridge in Marko two. Al-Shabaab have been chopping off hands of people in this area.” Said Ali.
The military said the Al-Shabaab operative joined the group in 2015 and has been responsible for making explosive devices.
