Al-Shabaab ups attacks as suicide bomber blows up in Mogadishu military base
A suicide bomber reported to have been clad in Somali army uniform blew himself up at a military base in Wadajir district, Mogadishu Monday.
Goobjoog News correspondent at the scene says military sources indicate four soldiers were injured but little information is coming through as the military have cordoned off the place.
“Ambulances are driving in and out of the military base. The place has been sealed off,” our correspondent says.
The attack comes a day after 15 people were killed in a bomb explosion near the defense headquarters in Mogadishu. The attack which the militant group Al-Shabaab said was targeting the new military chief Jima’ale Irfiid killed passengers who were travelling in a minibus near the defense headquarters.
This is the second attack in the Warshadda Nana (candy factory) military base in two months. A truck loaded with explosives rammed into the former candy factory mid last month killing the driver and injuring three others.
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for today’s attacks.
