Al-Shabab attack AMISOM base in Golweyn

Al-Shabab launched attack on AMISOM military base in Golweyn locality last night, official said.

The group engaged in gun battle with government soldiers for hours before they retreated.

Local resident in the area confirmed the attack and said AMISOM soldiers are till at their base.

Lower Shabelle deputy governor Ali noor Mohamed speaking to Goobjoog News said that AMISOM soldiers resisted well and Al-Shabab fighters were driven away with heavy causalities.

“They attempted to attack the base but they were dealt hardly and suffered a lot” he said.

Al-Shabaab, which wants to depose Somali government in Mogadishu, has in the past stepped up the number of raids on the military bases.

The group has posted on its website page a footage of Janaale attack which tens of AMISOM soldiers were executed.
