Alshabab Captures Towns Abandoned by AMISOM
Alshabab rebels have taken over three towns in Lower Shabelle that has been abandoned by AMISOM peace keepers in the last 24 hours.
The small town namely Mubarak, Aw Dhegle and Tooro Toorow was a hot spot for regular clashes between AMISOM and Alshabab, and has changed hands for several times.
AMISOM withdrawal came just a week after the deadly Friday Alshabab attack on their bases in Lego, not far from this town, which claimed the lives of as many as 50 peace keepers from Burundi.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Ethiopian troops may fill the gap left by troops from other nations like Uganda and Burundi.
Military experts say Alshabab has managed to regroup during the break period of AMISOM and Government offensive code named Indian Ocean which was launched last year, but has since stopped. Things also became worse when government forces are not paid for up to 4 months forcing them to desert positions or may be colluding with the enemy as some analyses insist.
