AMISOM/SNA assault in Jungal nets Al-Shabaab weaponry

A joint operation by AMISOM and Somali National Army against Al-Shabaab has led to recovery of weapons and vehicles in Jungal in Gedo region, AMISOM has said.

In a twitter post this morning, the African Union backed force said it had attacked Al-shabaab in Jungal, 30kms northwest of former Al-shabaab stronghold Barhere and recovered an assortment of weapons. The weapons include 9 Kalashnikovs, 5 improvised explosive devices and ammunition.

The force added that it also recovered a boat used by Al-Shabaab to cross Jubba river to infiltrate Gedo in addition to a vehicle and a tractor.
Jungal was recovered in July during operation Jubba corridor which also saw the fall of Bardhere to AMISOM/SNA control.
