The African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) has said the Tuesday afternoon incident in which an Armoured Personnel Carrier rammed into and dragged a car along KM4 was a result of faulty brakes and not deliberate.

The force’s spokesman Col Lieutenant Rono told Goobjoog News the incident was regrettable and that investigations are already ongoing on the matter.
“What happened was unfortunate. The APC developed brakes failure and it was not deliberate at all. Investigations are now going on,” said Rono.

A video circulating online Tuesday evening shows an Amisom APC dragging a saloon car as another APC follows shortly from behind.
Mogadishu mayor described the incident as regrettable and called on Amisom to explain the circumstances under which the incident happened.

“As Mayor and Governor, I would like to express my sincere regret regarding the incident that occurred with AMISOM vehicles today and the passenger car” said the statement.
The governor’s office has also reached out to Amisom top leaders requesting clear details on the incident. “I have been in close communication with AMISOM leadership and requested a clarification as well as for the individuals responsible to be held accountable,” he added.
