Somali National Army backed by African Peace Keeping Mission troops is in an active offensive against Alshabab fighters in some localities of Hiiran region.
Mohamed Osman Diriye –an officer from Somali National Army speaking to Goobjoog News claimed they had recovered a number of territories from Alshabab fighters.
“We are now in an active offensive that covers large swathes of Hiran region and so far we have just involved minor skirmishes with Alshabab. We are determined to free Alshabab from entire region”
Alshabab has not issued any comments about the development. The group has met major setbacks in the last few months as they lost a number of major towns which have served as supply routes and sources of revenue..
AMISOM and Somali National Army are preparing to improve the security of the region amid preparations for the upcoming state formation conference for Hiran and Middle Shebelle.
