Anti-Jawari motion aimed at Lower House for vote against DP World-MP
The government is punishing the House for its vote on DP World-Sakariye
A lawmaker has accused the government of efforts to derail the functioning of parliament noting the current motion against Lower House speaker Mohamed Jawari was by extension targeted at the entire House.
Sakariye Abdi, MP said the motion was an indictment against parliament for its position on the DP World issue. The Federal Parliament declared the contract between DP World and Somaliland regarding Berbera port illegal and declared the Emirati ports operator banned from Somalia.
“I told the Somali MPs that the motion is not only against Prof. Jawari but is aimed at attacking the whole Federal Parliament and MPs,”
“The government is striving to kick out Parliament speaker and interfere with the duties of parliament,” Sakariye told Goobjoog News Saturday. “This also coincides with our decision to ban DP World.”
But a faction allied to the Prime Minister has indicated it will proceed with the motion which Jawari has said is ready for.
Outspoken and long serving MP Mohamed Dalha told Goobjoog News the government is not officially behind the motion despite major support from government ministers.
“This motion is not sanctioned at official level by the government,” Dalha said. “It came up because we had prior information the other side was preparing a motion against the Prime Minister.
