ALGIERS, Xinhua: The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) and the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) signed here on Monday a joint declaration to establish the Arab-Latin American Parliamentary Dialogue Space, a platform aimed at fostering collaboration between Arab and Latin American legislators on pressing global issues.

While addressing the signing ceremony, AIPU President Ibrahim Boughali, also speaker of the People’s National Assembly of Algeria, described the initiative as a “promising step” toward creating a permanent framework for consultation and coordination between Arab and Latin American nations in political, economic, cultural, and parliamentary fields.

“South-South cooperation is no longer an option but an urgent necessity to address common challenges, achieve equitable development, and uphold peace, justice, and human dignity,” Boughali said.

He emphasized that the platform would serve the shared interests of both regions while amplifying their collective voice on the global stage.

For his part, Parlatino President Rolando Gonzalez Patricio emphasized the importance of parliamentary dialogue in addressing transnational issues. He highlighted Parlatino’s efforts to strengthen ties with other regions, including the Arab world.

“Global challenges, whether political, economic, or environmental, require joint action and inclusive consultation,” he said.

The agreement was signed after the conclusion of the 38th session of AIPU on Sunday in Algiers. The session was themed “The Role of AIPU amid Regional and International Changes.”
