GOOBJOOG NEWS: The Arab League has convened an emergency meeting, following a request by the Federal Government of Somalia to discuss the escalating tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia, following a controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Ethiopia and the breakaway region, Somaliland.

The emergency session was triggered by the Ethiopian-Somaliland MoU, which has caused an uproar, not just in Somalia, but across the Horn of Africa region and the Arab world.

The MoU seeks to grant Ethiopia sea access and operational privileges in Somaliland, a move seen as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Arab League, Arab Parliament, and the Somali government have unanimously condemned the agreement.”

“This diplomatic crisis has far-reaching implications for the Horn of Africa region. The MoU has not only strained Ethiopia-Somalia relations but also endangered the prospects for renewed dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia and Somaliland. Moreover, the deal is seen as a potential security concern for the Federal Member States,” A statement from the Arab League reads

The emergency meeting is seen as a critical step towards addressing these complex issues and charting a path forward.
