Arab League Meets on Gaza Crisis; Somalia Voices Support for Palestinians

GOOBJOOG NEWS | CAIRO: Somalia joined fellow Arab states in an emergency meeting held in Cairo to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as Israeli strikes and a prolonged blockade push the enclave deeper into famine and displacement.
Somalia’s Ambassador to Egypt and permanent representative to the Arab League, Ali Abdi Awad, took part in the urgent session chaired by Jordan.
The talks, held at the Arab League headquarters, focused on Israel’s continued bombardment of Gaza, its blockade of aid, and what officials described as systematic targeting of civilians and food distribution centers.
Delegates also sharply criticized Israel’s proposal to set up a so-called “humanitarian city” in southern Gaza, calling it a veiled attempt at mass displacement and racial segregation. Member states denounced the plan as a “giant prison” and warned it posed a grave threat to Palestinian lives.
Ambassador Awad reaffirmed Somalia’s full support for the Palestinian cause and condemned what he termed “crimes against humanity” in Gaza.
He called for unified Arab action and global solidarity to end the suffering.
“The Palestinian people deserve justice, dignity, and protection under international law,” he said.
The meeting underscored the Arab League’s collective stance against Israeli policies in Gaza and its push for urgent humanitarian intervention amid deepening crisis.
