Arab League Reaffirms Commitment to Support Somalia in Protecting Sovereignty
GOOBJOOG NEWS | CAIRO: The Arab League has reiterated its commitment to supporting Somalia’s position to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity against external threats.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abu Al-Ghait made the comments Tuesday when he met Somalia’s Acting Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohammed Omar in Cairo, Egypt.
The meeting, which came a day before the ministerial sessions of the University Council in its regular session (1961) emphasized the urgent need to provide support to Somalia.
Abu Al-Ghait denounced the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland on January 1st in Addis Ababa, explaining the Arab League’s stance of rejecting any actions that would undermine Somalia’s unity.
Somalia asserts that the agreement has violated its sovereignty and territorial integrity and has appealed for international support.
