Armed assailants stage deadly attack on mosque in Afgoye

GOOBJOOG NEWS/AFGOYE: A raid by unidentified assailants on a mosque in Afgoye district, Lower Shabelle, has led to the death of one person and injuries to three others.

The armed men stormed into Raqayle Mosque in Afgoye on Tuesday night and shot dead one person and injured three other people before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses reported that the attackers entered the mosque during the evening prayers and shot at the worshippers indiscriminately before fleeing.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear but Afgoye has been the scene of several assassinations, with Al-Shabaab brazenly claiming responsibility every time an attack occurs.

Federal government security soldiers together with the team in Afgoye have been combing the area since last night in an effort to nab the perpetrators of the deadly attack.
