Army Chief Hails Troops After El Dher Victory Over Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MASAGAWAA: Somalia’s ground forces commander, General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, on Tuesday praised soldiers fighting Al-Shabaab, calling their efforts “a decisive step” in securing Galgaduud region.

Speaking during a frontline visit to Masagawaa, General Sahal said the troops’ resilience in last week’s battle for El Dherr district had delivered a heavy blow to the militants. “Your sacrifice is the backbone of our nation’s security,” he told the soldiers.

The operation, carried out with support from local militia group Xaq u Dirirka, forced Al-Shabaab from positions around El Dher, tightening government control in the area.

Military officials said the push reflects Somalia’s broader campaign to weaken the group’s strongholds in central regions.
