Army Chief Urges Troops to Sustain Pressure on Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali National Army Land Forces Commander Gen. Sahal Abdullahi Omar has called on government and African Union troops in Lower Shabelle to intensify operations against al Shabaab, saying recent gains must be consolidated.

During an inspection of frontline positions near Awdheegle district, Omar praised soldiers for inflicting heavy losses on the militants but warned that “the fight is not over.”

He urged joint forces to eliminate remaining hideouts as the third phase of Operation Silent Storm continues in the region.

The Somali government says the offensive has dealt al Shabaab significant setbacks, though the group remains active in southern and central areas.
