At Least 10 Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in Lower Jubba

GOOBJOOG NEWS | KISIMAYO: At least 10 Al-Shabaab militants were killed Tuesday in a military operation conducted by Jubbaland security forces at Janaay Abdalla village near Kismayo.

According to military sources, Jubbaland’s Darawish forces launched a preemptive strike against Al-Shabaab fighters suspected have been planning an attack in the area.

The sources said the militants were planning attacks in a bid to recapture Janaay Abdalla area which was liberated by the government forces.

“We successfully neutralized close to 10 militants and injured several others during the operation,” one of the officers who spoke on condition of anonymity said.


Janaay Abdalla, located in the volatile Lower Juba region, is considered vital for the defence of Kismayo, the capital of Jubbaland.

Al-Shabaab, which once controlled large swathes of the area, has launched numerous attacks in an effort to reclaim it. Jubbaland forces backed by Somali National Army and international partners have repelled the attempts by the terrorist group to recapture the area.
