GOOBJOOG NEWS|IRAN: At least 115 people, the vast majority reported to be young girls were killed when an air strike struck a primary school in southern Iran, local authorities said.

The strike hit Shajareh Tayyebeh Primary School in Minab, a city in Hormozgan province, on Saturday morning. The attack came as the United States and Israel launched a series of military operations targeting sites across Iran.

According to Iran’s Tasnim and Fars news agencies, the victims were between the ages of seven and 12.

A member of staff at the Minab school, who requested anonymity, described scenes of devastation following the blast. Speaking to Middle East Eye, she said she was still struggling to process what had happened.

She recalled seeing the girls playing in the schoolyard just hours earlier. After the explosion, however, she returned to find bodies scattered across classrooms and corridors.

The staff member said she had briefly left the premises when she heard what she described as a terrifying explosion. Moments later, a projectile struck the school building.

When she rushed back, she encountered chaos and destruction.

“I felt unable to speak,” she said. “There were children crying and screaming everywhere.”

As emergency responders arrived, the extent of the damage began to emerge. Rescue workers searched through debris for survivors amid fears that more victims remained trapped beneath the rubble.

“There are still children unaccounted for,” she said, adding that some reports suggested the death toll could rise. “Many of the injured are in critical condition. Parents have gathered here, and the school has become a place of grief.”

At the time of the strike, 170 girls were inside the school. In addition to those killed, at least 45 people were reported injured.

Videos circulating on Telegram channels linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps appeared to show civilians and rescue teams digging through collapsed structures. Smoke was visible rising from nearby buildings, while damaged vehicles lined the street. Cries and sirens filled the air as stunned residents attempted to comprehend the scale of the tragedy.
