GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Recent floods across Somalia has caused the deaths of at least 31 people and led to massive displacement of people and destruction of property according to Information Minister Daud Aweys.

The Minister further stated that the floods have presented logistical challenges and created a potential health crisis due to a likelihood of an outbreak of waterborne diseases.

He also noted that several people who depend on agriculture and livestock have lost livelihoods after floods swept across their homesteads and destroyed their properties exposing them to hunger and poverty.

The minister said the Federal Government together with other humanitarian agencies have initiated concerted efforts to assist the affected people by providing food, shelter and medical supplies.

He however noted that the scale of the disaster calls for more support to effectively address the immediate needs and to start planning for long-term recovery and rehabilitation.
