At Least 6 Killed In Kenya Train-Bus Collision

NAIVASHA, Kenya, Xinhua: At least six people were killed and several others injured on Thursday afternoon when a train collided with a bus in Naivasha, about 90 km northwest of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, police said.
The crash involved a staff bus belonging to the state-owned Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) and a Kenya Railways train at a level crossing, Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Anthony Keter said.
Preliminary investigations indicate the bus driver attempted to cross the railway line without checking for an oncoming train, Keter told reporters at the scene.
A witness said visibility was poor due to heavy rainfall at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to the accident.
KPC Managing Director Joe Sang said in a statement that the incident occurred just before the company’s Morendat Training and Conference Center (MTCC).
“The bus was carrying staff from MTCC getting off the morning shift,” he said, noting that emergency and safety teams were immediately dispatched, and the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
“We are working closely with the medical teams and local authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible care and to facilitate airlifts for the critically injured,” he said.
