At least nine UN guards and three Amisom soldiers killed in twin explosion in Mogadishu
At least 12 people have been killed, 9 of them UN guards and three soldiers serving under the African union force in Somalia, Amisom in twin explosion that rocked the gate of the Amisom base headquarters in Mogadishu.
Goobjoog News correspondent at the scene said the first explosion hit a check point near the Amisom base while the second one hit the gate shared by Amisom and the UN.
At least 9 UN guards are among those killed including three Amisom soldiers who were manning the gate were also killed. Two civilians were injured.
However planes could still be seen landing at Aden Adde Airport which is near the scene of the explosion. An helicopter could be seen hovering around the airport shortly after the explosion before it landed some ten minutes later.
The militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack. Spontaneous gun fire could be heard from the scene.
