At least ten killed, 16 injured in two days of violence in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: At least ten people were killed and 16 others injured among them a 25-year-old woman who was hit by a stray bullet during a two days clash between the opposition and government forces in Mogadishu were killed, Goobjoog News can authoritatively reveal.
Investigations by Goobjoog News now reveal the extent of the casualties in the clash which has seen both the opposition and the government traded accusations on who bears responsibility. In one instance on Friday however, government forces stationed near Sahal Terminal along Airport Road indiscriminately fired live bullets at protestors.
A clash between government forces and armed guards for the opposition in Daljirka-Dhasoon on the night of February 18 resulted in five deaths from both sides while six others were injured.
In Hodan district on the night of Friday the 18th, 25-year-old Maymun Bashir was hit by a stray bullet at her home but survived as relatives struggled to negotiate their way out of roadblocks mounted by government troops to rush her to hospital.
“It was on Friday night when Maymun was shot but we could not take her to the hospital because the roads were closed,” a relative who declined to be named told Goobjoog News. “When the roads were opened, we rushed her to hospital.”
On the other side of Warta Nabada district, two people died following a shoot-out between government forces and opposition militias. Two people were injured.
Ahmed Saki Omer 28, died of shock after receiving the news that his kin was injured during the shoot-out in Warta Nabada, a relative only identified as Kadiye told Goobjoog News.
In total, at least 16 people were injured and nine killed in the two days gunfire rocked Mogadishu.
Meanwhile, the government has absolved itself of responsibility and accused the opposition of ‘destabilising the country’ as the opposition maintains government forces sought to disrupt their rallies and even attempted to assassinate its members.
