One Killed in Shootout Between Puntland Forces and Armed Group in Basaso Town

GOOBJOOG NEWS | PUNTLAND: One person was killed and others injured during a shootout between Puntland regional government security forces and an armed group in Basaso town.

The deceased, identified as Salim Ayuob died while undergoing treatment following injuries, he sustained during the gunfight that occurred Tuesday night, medical and security sources at Basaso confirmed.

The coastal town has been identified as one of the locations where illegal weapons from Yemen are sneaked to the country by armed groups linked to the Al-Shabaab militant group.  

The armed groups have also been linked to various incidences in Basaso town and security forces in the town have been collaborating with the federal government in battling the groups and restore normalcy in the town.
