AU-Backed Forces, Somali Army Conduct Joint Patrol In Barawe

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BARAWE: Troops from the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the Somali National Army (SNA) carried out a joint security patrol in the Barawe sub-sector, as part of efforts to maintain stability and deter militant threats.

The patrol involved AUSSOM Sector 1 forces operating alongside SNA units to assess security conditions, monitor potential threats and reassure local communities, according to a statement from the mission.

Battle Group 45 Commander Col. Justus Musenene said the joint patrols were aimed not only at securing the area but also at strengthening the operational capacity of Somali forces as they prepare to assume greater responsibility for national security.

SNA 66 Brigade Commander Col. Liban Yusuf Garre praised AUSSOM troops for their cooperation and commitment, calling for continued joint efforts. Lt. Col. Geoffrey Ochan, the commanding officer of the 145 Battalion and operation commander for the day, said coordinated patrols were essential in countering security threats and maintaining professionalism among the forces.

Somalia, with support from the African Union and international partners, has stepped up joint operations as part of a broader transition towards Somali-led security and long-term stabilisation.
