AU Envoy commends launch of consultative process on elections, condemns attack in Mogadishu
The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AMISOM Ambassador Maman Sidikou has described the launch of the consultative process on the 2016 elections, as a breakthrough in efforts to have an all inclusive electoral process that reflects the diversity of the Somali people.
The process launched at the Presidential Palace yesterday, was witnessed by representatives of the Federal Government, Federal Parliament , leaders of Puntland, Jubbaland, Galmudug and the South West Administrations.
“I commend the launch of this process and look forward to the setting up of the National Consultative Forum that will guide it. I congratulate the leaders from the Federal Government and the interim administrations, who have worked tirelessly to see this process through. I am optimistic that the outcome will be favourable to all,” said Ambassador Sidikou.
The AU Special Representative also condemned last evening’s attack in Mogadishu. He said the attack was a desperate attempt by Al Shabaab to disrupt peace efforts.
“We will not be cowed nor be deterred by this dastardly act. I commended AMISOM and SNA troops for their quick reaction that saved lives,” added Ambassador Sidikou.
